Welcome to Firelight Retrievers L.L.C.
I'm a small breeder and lover of the labrador retriever breed; who focuses on preserving the Labrador Retriever as a "sporting gundog", loyal loving companion in the field, and a joy to have in the home. I've been involved with the Labrador breed for over 20 yrs and started my breeding program January 2017, my dogs love loafing my couch while were not competing or in the field hunting. I focus my breeding program for the sportsman in mind to enjoy the outdoors while still having a peace of mind in the home as a family dog. All my dogs and puppies are born and raised in my home, I raise my puppies using Puppy Culture methods to help them off to the right start in life.
I'm very partial to the FoxRed shade of yellows but I do not breed just for that alone in my program. I wish to help bring back that classic shade seen in the early years of the breed while contributing to the Labradors genetic health, excellent temperaments, soundness of a gundog, and loyal loving companion.
The Fox Red shade of the Labrador Retriever is not a new color or latest fad, they are well documented in the 1800’s and it’s said to be the original shade of yellow called “golden” in that time. In 1899 the first registered yellow Lab was "Ben Of Hyde" and his shade is described as a dark butterscotch with tints of red, some recorded dogs were described as rust and mistaken as being chocolate.
My dogs are very versatile and compete in various sports and hunt in the field such as shed hunting, waterfowl, and pheasant while also attending AKC & UKC Hunt Tests, compete in Dock Diving, and FastCats. We are members of the Buckeye Retriever Club, North American Diving Dogs Association, and Buckeye DockDogs.
Also note: the Fox Red shade does not carry the same genetics as the dilute (silver) and should not be compared as such. I do not and will not breed dilutes or to dilute lines known as silver, charcoal, or champagne and hope others respect my lines and my decision to breed to standard Black, Yellow, and Chocolate that are clear of the dilute gene.
